lesson 14: personalized reading guide
ne of the best ways to apply your Readers' Advisory knowledge is to create a reading guide for a reader, based on answers to a reading-preferences survey -- like the one you completed in Lesson 3. In fact, exactly the same as the Your Next Great Read survey you completed.
FIRST... Read the sample survey answers for these readers:
THEN... Choose one to create a personalized reading guide for.
FINALLY... Using your RA knowledge, the Popular Genres & Authors Overview from Lesson 5, and tools such as the NoveList database, create a personalized reading guide using this template. Typically, for the Your Next Great Read guides, we choose between 3 and 5 authors and 8 and 10 specific titles based on a readers' stated preferences. We typically use descriptions of authors and titles from either NoveList or the catalog, but if you are interested in writing your own annotations, go for it. For the "Reason" part of each title, you should either list the appeals of the title as it relates to the reader's preferences, or write a sentence or two identifying the appeals.
