LESSON 13: themes & blended genres list
Many novels do not follow strict genre requirements but “blend” genres: fantasy, humor, and mystery in the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris, for example, or science fiction, private detective and suspense in Michael Chabon’s The Yiddish Policeman’s Union. Other novels go well together because of shared themes or other similar factors.
In this activity, you will create a list that either 1) describes a new sub-genre (or blended genre) OR 2) collects books that are similar in theme, topic, or other element.
